What things were brought about in the Digital Pinay Public Briefing/Press Con
It was slated at 3:30pm in the ACCEED Center of AIM in Paseo but we actually started at 4pm. The bloggers who were present there were myself, Sean Uy (http://lengthofwords.blogspot.com)and Xenia Solano (http://bellissima-x.com/). Ranulf Goss was also there. The only guy from the media I recognize is Joey Alarilla (http://babelmachine.blogspot.com) but there were two more there. Majority of the people who were around were the PCS officers.

They gave a slide presentation of the Digital Pinay search. I wish I didn't leave my flashdrive in the office by accident so I could have uploaded it for you people who have been following this Digital Pinay shebang. Anyhow, I took down some notes that I hope would make sense.

The Rationale Behind the Search for the Digital Pinay
Reflects the ideals of PCS
Revival of the "Computer Girl" or "Ms. PCS" (which has been around in the late 70's to the early 80's)
Promote gender equality in the IT industry
Promote ICT as an equal opportunity employer
Not a beauty contest

About the Controversial Application Forms
The wrong forms were sent out by accident. Somebody changed it. But Mr. Querubin acknowledges that he committed a mistake of assuming that nobody would change the original forms.
(My mean streak thought: That's why we shouldn't assume too much... But I would get a double whammy for this.)

The PCS Digital Pinay
They know that Media G8way is conducting a search for the most powerful women in IT and they decided to have an intermediate level of a search - the search for the future most powerful women in IT
Media G8way had 11 women winners. They decided to have three.

Student level
(I refuse to call it Co-ed because it seems weird to me.)
This is made in such a way that each school has only one representative.
This is to encourage schools to produce top ICT grads.
This would also show who are the employable female grads of the year.

Professional Level
Mr. Querubin has mentioned that they anticipated at getting flak for the age range.
(I thought, maybe they should have prepared for it in the first place. *shrugs*)
And there is a required minimum five years of experience.
The HR must recommend them. (I read in Tala's blog in http://fallenstar.so-phobic.com/wordpress/2005/01/20/digital-pinay-2005/ that maybe the IT dept head should be the one to recommend but I think that this wouldn't be practical because in some cases, there may be HR heads in most set-ups but there isn't always an IT dept head.)
And the HR is going to be notified as to the schedule of the potential candidate's schedules since these professionals are busy, busy people too.

Announcement
They said that the Search for the Digital Pinay has been announced since October. They even had press people.
(My thought: Maybe they should have a better strategy for advertising their events. Press cons aren't enough. Blogs, mailing lists, forums, print ads, posters - these are all ways of advertising an event. How come I don't remember seeing any of these until recently?)

Personality Factor
Once again they have reiterated their point that the way they conceived this, they were thinking about the qualities of a future CEO.
They thought: What would constitute a future CEO?
Their answer: interpersonal skills (aside from the know-how)
They said that they had to balance IQ and EQ.
They want to have future bosses with personality problems/attitude problems.
(My comment: True. There is a thing about emotional quotient that has to be factored in. But how does one really quantify everything?)

Other Possible Awards (depending on the sponsorship they would get)
CISCO/NORTEL Award - friendliest
PLDT/GLOBE/Smart/Nokia - texters' choice or something similar
(there were others, but i wasn't able to keep track of them)

Femininity
Their example: Janet Lizardo who is someone well liked by everyone
She hasn't lost her femininity.
A Digital Pinay doesn't have to be one of the guys.

The Title: Digital
Global Pinay - MTB already thought of that
Digital Filipina - there is an online magazine called Digital Filipino
Digital Pinay - catch phrase

Presentability
About being comfortable, not just the clothes. (So why still push through with the sportswear/casual wear thing in case there are sponsors?)
You cannot really go far without a personality. (I forgot the name of the one who said this.)
"Nobody would listen to you if you cannot get the attention of the people."

This is not a complete set of notes. The net cafe will soon close. Sorry, I have no choice but to finish this thing tomorrow night. I still have comments coming aside from other notes.;)

Feeling like: restless

The only good Digital Pinay...
The only good Digital Pinay... is the Half-Life model of Maria Clara!
She's digital and she can be sent via stream as a series of bits. I made her so that means she's Philippine-made and I can give her breasts and ovaries. She's not that good personality-wise, since she doesn't really have a mind of her own, but that also makes her easily manipulable by the real powers behind a corporation, thus making her the perfect CEO!

Half-Life players won't like her too much, though; her model's way too big a target for those tau cannons.

Sayang di ako nakapunta. I would've gladly joined you. Thanks so much for sharing it with us. The Force of Journalism glows brightly in this one, Master Yoda.

I think what they continue to gloss over is this...

There is nothing in the current criteria to measure personality. Popularity and poise are not enough. Joseph Estrada had popularity, Paris Hilton had poise AND popularity after the infamous tape.

PCS, please don't tell me these people are paragons of "personability". :P

Hehehe. You know, I am drafting an open letter to PCS. I have to say, Marcelle, that you and I kinda think alike. Popularity and poise are not enough.

But we ought to make sure that we do suggest some good ideas to them. I think that their ideas and concepts need to have some consultation with people who are not in their organization.

Tsk tsk.

Hey, Xenia!
My webhhost is going bonkers so I have no idea if people could actually access my http://e-clair.tk site now. Saw your take on the entire shebang. Will post an open letter to PCS tomorrow. I am drafting something kinda long... geez, I have never thought blogging something like this.

Has the PCS Secretariat replied to you yet? I would still like to folow up on this thing. Can't rest from it...

This may not be the complete set of notes, but it would suffice. :D Needless to say, I used to be a student-judge for the Dean's Awards in Ateneo, so I'm basing the ff. questions from my experience.

Questions that should be posed
Personality: Will there be a managerial/psychometric-type of test for the nominees? Will they conduct panel interviews for the nominees (i.e., mock job-interviews)? Will the judges/panelists go undercover and interview nominees' co-workers? If nominees are working on their projects, will the judges let them present their work in front of an audience, or publish them?

Presentability/Femininity: If nominees are working on their projects, will the judges let them present their work in front of an audience? Will the interviews of the nominees be published in broadsheets, complete with photos (office/casual)?

I am thinking of including your questions in the open letter I would like to present to PCS. Is that ok? I actually thought about these things already and I am glad that we are of one accord with this:)
